How often should you wash your bed linen and towels?

Bed sheets and towels can accumulate bacteria and dirt if they are not washed regularly. Setting a laundry routine for these types of fabrics is highly important if we want to maintain them free from undesirable bugs & germs that we can’t see.

What type of microorganisms can appear in bed sheets and towels?

To ensure you always have clean fresh sheets and towels, follow our tips regarding the frequency of each laundry wash depending on the type of item.

Bed Linen: 

Generally, bed sheets should be washed at least once a week. If you have babies, kids or elder people who tend to have urinary leaks, we recommend washing your sheets more frequently and when it’s required. If you have ill people at home, suffering from a flu or a cold for example, or any family members suferring COVID-19, you should wash your sheets every two to three days to get rid of the germs, depending on the case.

During the summer season, we should also wash our sheets more often, roughly twice per week, as we tend to sweat more while sleeping.

Regarding pillow cases, ensure you always wash them together with the rest of your bed sheets, as they also accumulate bacteria and dirt while sleeping.

Towels: 

The use we give to the towel will determinate how often we should wash it:

  • Bath & Shower towels: wash roughly once every three days. If the towel smells damp it’s laundry time. We recommend hanging the towel to dry correctly after every shower to let it dry properly. This will prevent the appearance of fungi and mal odour.
  • Hand towels: wash every day or every two days, depending on how much time you spend at home and if you have guests coming over. This type of towel needs to be washed more frequently as we use it more often and it is more exposed to germs (after using the toilet, after brushing our teeth, when getting back home, etc.).
  • Sports towels: wash after every use to avoid sweat odours being impregnated in the towel.
  • Beach and Pool towels: wash after every use to avoid odours being impregnated in the towel. If we want to wash it every two to three uses, it is important to let it dry correctly before placing it inside the beach/ pool bag.

How to clean cloth face masks and coverings | Coronavirus

The correct way to wash and disinfect your reusable fabric face masks to protect yourself, your family and other people.

Face masks have become the new safety accessory to wear during the crisis. In order to help slow the spread of COVID-19, the government and scientific community advices to wear a mask when going out of our homes. It is important to wear our masks when going to the grocery stores, pharmacies, shops, to work and any other places where social distancing cannot be maintained.

To ensure you and your family are staying safe, as an additional preventive action, always wash and disinfect reusable face masks regularly. Follow these steps when doing the laundry with fabric face masks:

Washing Machine:

  1. Place the fabric masks inside the drum, either with or without your regular laundry. Remember to remove filters.
  2. Add your regular laundry detergent.
  3. Add 100ml of Tuzz Laundry Cleanser Disinfectant in the softener dispenser tray and set the washing programme. You can wash your fabrics at low temperatures such as 20ºC or 30ºC, due to the disinfecting action of our laundry cleanser your fabrics will be Coronavirus-free when the cycle ends.
  4. Hang to dry. Make sure the mask is completely dry before storing or using.

Hand Wash:

  1. Dilute 20ml of Tuzz Laundry Cleanser Disinfectant in 4L of water. Do not pour the product directly on the fabric.
  2. Add fabric face masks and any other fabric you may need to hand-wash. Remember to remove filters from your masks.
  3. Leave for 15 minutes.
  4. Rinse fabrics with cold water, remove excess of water and hang fabrics to dry. Discard solution down the drain.
  5. Make sure the mask is completely dry before storing or using.

How to disinfect your fabrics/ laundry

General Laundry:

During the Coronavirus crisis sanity authorities have recommended not only to disinfect our home but also our clothes. Once we get back home from the office, school, supermarket, the park or any other place, we need to remove our clothes and place them in the laundry basket.

Note that our clothes will not come out germ free from the washing machine if we do not use a special disinfectant or laundry sanitizer. Only using laundry detergent in our laundry will not remove bacteria, viruses and fungi, this is why we recommend adding Tuzz Disinfectant Laundry Cleaser, together with our laundry detergent, for clean and disinfected laundry. It is great for disinfecting fabrics such as:

  • Everyday laundry

Place your clothes inside the washing machine. Add 100 ml of Tuzz Disinfectant Laundry Cleanser into your washer’s softener dispenser tray and select your usual wash cycle. Do not combine with fabric softener. Don’t forget to add your regular detergent before setting the programme, as this is not a laundry detergent and needs to be combined with one in order to both clean and disinfect fabrics.

How to disinfect fabrics that cannot be placed in the washing machine? This question may have popped your mind several times during flu season or sanitary crisis. Disinfectant your washing machine:

General disinfection laundry tips:

  • Wash your towels once or twice per week. Always hang them to dry once you are done using them to prevent the appearance of fungi and bacteria.
  • Disinfect your laundry basket after placing your clothes on the washing machine. If your basket is made from plastic or wood, use Tuzz Multipurpose Disinfectant Cleaner. If you have a fabric laundry basket use Tuzz Disinfectant Fabric Freshener. Always read the label and product information before use.
  • Do not place wet, sweaty clothes on your laundry basket, as they can transfer germs to other fabrics. Place them separately until you wash them.
  • As soon as your washing programme is finished hang your laundry to dry. Do not leave wet clothes and fabrics in the washing tumbler for hours as they can generate mal odour and germs.
  • Fabrics should be completely dry before storing them. If they are still wet, leave them a little longer until you store them.
